Reading out loud

We are learning to read familiar poems out loud. We are trying to read with fluency and expression. As we get more confident, we can pay attention to the author's punctuation to help our reading sound more interesting.

There is a surprise in my basket.  Can you see my story? I have been retelling a fairy tale.

Numbers sentences to 10

I am learning to read and make patterns to 10. I am learning to write the number sentence using the symbols.

"I can count on from a number to 10.  I can write the number sentence." said Tiffany

Wonderful writing

At writing time we are learning to experiment with new types of punctuation. We are starting to read our stories back and check we have fullstops and capital letters in the correct places.

"I am clever at sounding out the letters and write more than when I was small."

Three letter words.

I am learning to write a three letter word, listening to the beginning, middle and end sounds.  This will help me in my reading.

Rocket ship

We have been learning about the solar system this term.  We made a rocket with paper and a straw then blew through the straw to see how far our rocket would travel.  

High frequency words.

I am learning to read and write my high frequency words independently.

Maths Fun

Owl Babies

We are learning to publish our writing for an audience, because we are authors. In Room 3 we try to present our work in many different and interesting ways to encourage people to come and read our fabulous stories!

Matariki

Our classroom celebrated Matariki, which is the Maori New Year. We came to school in our pyjamas and had a yummy breakfast together! It is great to share time with our whanau.

"My whole family came to school for breakfast. My little brother, he did the cleaning. It was funny."

Beginning sounds

I am learning to make the first sound in new words now that I know my alphabet sounds.

"I can make the sounds that the word starts with" said Tiffany

Story Writing

We are learning to write down our ideas and draw a picture to match.

In the beginning ....                                                     and now!

"I want to do 3 sentences. I am trying to do finger spaces. It is bit tricky to write the word, but I keep on trying."

Counting backwards from 10

I am learning to order the numbers from 10 backwards to 1.  I know I can do that when the numbers are in order and I am able to count backwards.

"I can count backwards from biggest to smallest" said Tiffany

Tread Lightly Caravan visit

The Tread lightly Caravan visit was teaching us that the environment is everything around us in nature and that the environment is really important for us to live (trees for oxygen, water to drink, plants for food etc.) so we need to look after it.

"I planted a seed. I think it will grow so big to eat. I squirted the water."

Wiggly Worms

We were learning about our Worm farm and how to look after it. All the leftover fruit and vegetables in the worm bucket feeds the worms. 

Tiffany said, "This Tiger worm tickles and is moving on my arm. It is so funny!"
